英会話ブログ その742      Dating in the Digital Age (2)

2016/01/05

Flash forward to the present time, and we will see that dating has changed a lot.

Nowadays, a girl is just as likely as a boy to "make the first move" to ask for a date.  Meeting someone, such as at a concert or party is common, and is known as "hooking up". (This term has a sexual connotation also).

But this approach takes time, and a person may have to meet a lot of "losers" before they find someone special.

Because this is the digital age, it shouldn't be surprising that dating websites and apps have become a popular way to meet lovers.

The most popular ones now are Match.com, OK Cupid, and Tinder.

In most of these, you fill out a fairly extensive questionnaire about yourself, submit it along with a (hopefully not fake) photo, and the company's algorithms will generate a list of suitable matches.  To meet the person may be free or cost a small amount depending on the site.

These sites have millions of members, so you have a reasonable chance of finding a match...                                       (G.K)
