One of the strangest (and most enjoyable) comic strips ever produced in America is "Alley Oop".
Created by V.T. Hamlim, the strip made its debut in 1932, and still continues today, drawn by the husband and wife team of Jack and Carole Bender. ( Remember, a comic strip is a 4-panel comic published daily, usually in a newspaer).
Alley Oop is a cave man living in the prehistoric village of Moo. (the name of "Moo" and its rival village "Lem" are variations of the legendary continents of Mu and Lemuria).
The name "Alley Oop" apparently is taken from the French phrase "Allez hop !" meaning "Let's go !"
Alley is a strong guy, wearing just a fur loincloth and carrying a stone Ax.
In Moo, he's surrounded by other old characters, including his best friend Foozy (who speaks only in rhyme), his girlfriend Ooola, and his pet dinosaur, Dinny, whom he often rides. (G.K)
