(1) Ebola, A Deadly Virus
Let's talk about Ebola, a deadly virus which is now out of control in Western Africa and has a chance of spreading to other parts of Africa, as well as to other parts of the world, Perhaps, even to Japan.
Scientists, doctors and researchers have not been able to pinpoint the source of the Ebola virus, however, there is some talk amongst medical professionals that the disease might be carried by bats.
What is known, is that the virus probably originated in deep, dark jungle areas of Afrca. People who come into contact with the body fluids of infected victims, and then touch their own mouth, or their nose, or their eyes, are likely to become infected too. There is no cure for the Ebola disease.
Usually the incubation period is about 21 days. So, there are many people walking around already infected with the virus but don' know it, until it's too late. Most people who contract (get) Ebola die from the disease. If detected early, some strong individuals may survive. The mortality rate is 90%. (V.C)
