After finishing the game, only then would I be taken to a hospital for x-rays and proper treatment, so as to be ready for the next competition.
We use to say, "No pain ! No gain !" This means that pain can make you a better man, a tougher, stronger person. I still get aches and pains from old football injuries, especially when the seasons change. Fall to winter is the worst and old breaks and bruises come back like ghosts to haunt me. I am still very tough.
Now, let's get back to rugby. Like American football, rugby is a blood-sport (contact-sport) and the players are constantly crashing into each other. Some players wear helmets, some don't. It's a grueling sport, pitting muscle against muscle, running, throwing, kicking, crunching, falling, crashing etc.. it is a total war, man-to-man, team-to team.
I watched Japan beat South Africa and Samoa. When they played against U.S.A at 4am. JST, I was sitting in front of the TV set with a cup of coffee cheering both teams ! (V.C)
