Let's talk about Ebola hitting New York City a while ago. New York is my home town, so I listened intently to the TV news when they gave this disturbing report.
A doctor returning from helping to fight the Ebola virus in West Africa eventually developed Ebola symptoms. He had been careful to monitor (check) himself regularly by taking his temperature twice daily.
Since he is a medical man and since he had experience treating Ebola patients, he was confident he would be able to detect if he had contracted the deadly virus, or not.
Fever is the first sign that someone may have been infected by Ebola. Because the doctor had no fever, he had met his girlfriend, met some close friends, had gone to a restaurant and bowling alley and had even taken the subway.
However, soon after this, his body temperature soared (became high) and he contacted the hospital to send an ambulance, explaining he may have the Ebola virus. As it turned out, he did indeed have the virus. We all hoped he didn't pass it on... (V.C)
