英会話ブログ その803      Religion and Politics

2016/05/01

Some people will tell you it is not wise to talk religion and politics to an American, especially at a party, or in a bar.  Alcohol could fuel the conversation.  Many Americans become very emotional when it comes to these topics.

Even discussing religion and politics in American home can cause heated arguments among family members.

Right now, I am locked in a battle with my brother, Jeffrey, who is a staunch "hard" Hillary Clinton supporter.  Hillary is a traditional democrat and is running to be president of the United States.

She is going head-to-head (in man-to-man competition) with Bernie Sanders, a progressive democrat whom I support.

Since my brother lives in New York and I live and work in Japan, we use the internet as our battle ground, by posting blogs, photos, etc. of news agencies such as CNN, BBC, New York Times, Washington Post etc.  Then we write our own opinions.

He is not happy about what I post, or write, since I am pushing Bernie Sanders, who he hates.  However, we do agree on our mutual hatred of Donald Bush, the Republican frontrunner.                                         (V.C)
