I fought the urge to look behind me, to see if I was being followed by someone.  But only my footsteps were making banging sounds on the stone walkway.

So, I lit a cigarette and blew out a steady stream of silver smoke and continued on without turning my head.  Home was only 5 minutes away.

There were two cans of Kirin in my briefcase and one Ozeki one-cup stuffed in the pocket of my leather jacket.  Thinking of this felt comforting and helped to still my fears, but just as my paranoia was about to disappear, I stopped dead in my tracks.

The terror had gotten the best of me.  The chilly night air had suddenly turned ice-cold.  I put out my cigarette.
