Tips for traveling / studying or working in the United States (2)

Offer to wash the dishes and clean up the tables after everyone is fihished eating.  Homes typically say no to men and yes to women when your services are offered to clean up after a good meal.

In this way. America is a little traditional.  If it is your first time at the home, the hosts will probably say no and that you should sit down and enjoy finishing your meal or talking with the other guests though they will appreciate your offer.

In general, it is best not to talk about politics with Americans, especially in a situation such as a dinner party, where you will have nowhere to escape to for several hours to if you make your hosts angry.

Americans are often influenced by their religious belief, which gives them a different way of seeing many issues.  I would suggest no to talk about politics at all unless the hosts / guests specifically ask you about your opinions on a topic.                     (J.F)
