Baseball Slang in English - part 2 -  (1)

2013/07/30

As for the batter and the other fielders, a lot of slang words apply to them also.
When the batter "gets the green light" from the team manager, he is given permission to try and hit the ball as he feels.  Remember, a green light on the traffic light means "go", so he also can go.
Sometimes a base runner is also given the green light to steal a base.

If a batter can see the pitcher's throw well and often hit it, we say he "has a good eye."
The batter really wants to avoid hitting "a dribbler", a weak ground ball in the infield.  This would probably result in a "6-4-3 double play" if there's more than one base runner.                     (G.K)
