History of Labor Day (1)

For Americans, Labor Day usually means that there is an opportunity for a three day weekend holiday and that sadly summer is coming to an end.

Historically, Labor Day is intended to commemorate the social and economic success of American workers.

Labor Day is always celebrated on the first Monday in September.  It has been more than 100 years since Americans celebrated  the first Labor Day holiday, but even to this day, there are still disagreements about the founder of this holiday.

Some people believe that Peter J. McGuire, a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor, was the first to suggest a day to honor diligent workers.                     (C.S)
