Using pet names shows that we have a strong love for that person, and we feel comfortable with them.

Nicknames are used many times for friends, but pet names are usually only for loved ones. (This includes family members.)

Sometimes, the strange idiom "head over heels" is used to describe a strong romantic love feeling.

"I'm head over heels in love with him !" a girl might say.  The meaning is that when a person falls down a hill (for example) their body is rolling down "head over heels". (Heels are the back part of feet.)

So, when a person "falls" in love, their strong feeling is described this way...                             (G.K)
