英会話ブログ その497      Hyde Park (4)

2014/10/16

Her eyes were large and crystal blue.  She trained them on my right leg as I limped to a stop.
" Have you tried frozen peas ? "  she asked, suddenly, her British accent sounding a bit pedantic.
" Uh, no, ma'am,"  I said, like the New Yorker that I am, thinking this was a weird question, in a weird situation.

She wasn't rattled at all by my appearance, but she was staring intently at my kneecap.  I was beginning to feel uncomfortable and not quite sure why she was asking me that, I mean, here we were two complete strangers, having come face to face in Hyde Park on a blustery fall morning and she wants to know if I have tried fozen peas.                            (V.C)
