英会話ブログ その535   Ordering food at a restaurant  (5)

2014/12/02

Here are a continuation of different restaurant situations and several ways to ask the same thing to a waiter. (2)

     - The bill / cheque is not correct -

" We did not order eggs.  Can you take that off the bill ? "   → 5

" The bill is wrong.  We did not order eggs. "   → 3

" Sorry to bother you but the bill says we ordered eggs and we actually did not order any eggs.  Could you please take that item off our bill ? "   → 9

In general, North American restaurants are okay with you complaining and asking for any spices you would want to chage your dish.  The feeling is generally more relaxed than in a Japanese restaurant.

Also, if you are going to return to a restaurant more than once, I would suggest givin a good tip.  Giving a good tip (at least 15% of the tatal cheque) will make your experience in the future better.  Again, it is okay to complain about the taste of food, the amount of time waiting for food, or to ask the waiter if the cooks can change the dish you ordered for any reason.                                     (J.F)
