- Down the road -

With cars this expression is used in giving directions.
For example, " The gas station is down the road. "  It means straight ahead in the same direction.  Outside of cars, this expression means something in the future.  For example, " I want to go to graduate school sometime down the road."

- Hit and run -

This idiom describes a car accident when the driver who caused the accident drives away without helping the other people involved and without telling the police.  This expression can be used in other areas of life whenever someone does something wrong and leaves quickly without apologizing.  For example, " The girl kissed the boy once and then left without ever calling him again.  The boy was so sad.  It was a hit and run relationship for the girl. "
