英会話ブログ その566     English Word Observation ; boots on the ground (2)

2015/01/03

American English is filled with creative jargon, idioms and slang.  Some expression , such as, "boots on the ground" seem to appear on the scene overnight.

Here's another one for you, "Going postal", which means becoming extremely and uncontrollably angry, to the point of using violence (usually gun violence) at the workplace.

This expression came into being as the result of a series of mass murders carried out by postal workers who have gone on shooting sprees, killing fellow postal workers in a state of "workplace rage".                              (V.C)
