英会話ブログ その621     Adjective order in English (1)

2015/03/07

If more than two adjectives are used to describe the same thing then they need to be put in a specific order.

This order is known by native English speakers without thinking about the rules, however, it must be memorized by foreign English learners because the order these adjectives should be put in is very confusing.

1) Opinion - This describes personal feelings about something.  Examples include "horrible," "boring."

2) Size - How large or small something is.  Example adjectives include "large," tiny," and "gigantic."

3) Age - How old something or someone is, " ancient," " new, "  "elderly."                                (J.F)
