英会話ブログ その652     " Right ?   Right ! " (1)

2015/07/08

The above is a possible dialogue between two people using only 1 word each.

Obviously, the first speaker has just said something, and is seeking agreement from the second, who does indeed agree.

This showcases one of the most common and useful English words : Right.

In English, "Right" wears many hats.  For example, it's a noun, as in Civil Rights, or the Right to vote.

It's also an adjective, as in my right hand, or " Is he in his right mind ? "

Is Right also a verb ?  Certainly. As in to bring something back to its proper condition.  " The mayor promised to right the wrongs done to black people by the police. "                                                    (G.K)
