Another phrase, "Let bygones be bygones" is a well-known adage in English, meaning simply put, to forgive past actions.

The cartoon and animation character Popeye, is famous for declaring "I yam what I yam..." (which is actually "I am what I am" in Popeye's way of speaking).  He is saying he can't change because he simply is just as he is.

God told Moses a similar thing in the Bible : I am that I am.  This is not to imply that God and Popeye are the same, but...

Tautophrases can express determination, as in the phrase "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do."                                       (G.K)
