I didn't catch that: problems of listening (2)

2013/04/17

The phrase "Did you...?" may sound like " didju...? " or  "didja...? "
Now what do you think this phrase means ?  -  "Juseet ? "

A lot of people might not realize that it's the way some native speakers pronounce " did you eat ? "   Also " Where did you ...? " might be heard as " WhereJa ? "

As I said, several words are often pushed  together when they're pronounced by a native speaker.

When meeting someone for the first time, he or she might say " Weeryafrum ? " which, in the textbook would be  " Where are you from ? "

Listerning well is difficult at first, but if you train your eares by hearing English from native speakers,  moveis, music and so on, it will become easier.          (G.K)
