皆さん、リーディングは好きですか？

初心者の方ですと文が少し長くなると、どこで区切ったらよいかわからないということもありますね。

音読は英語学習に欠かせないものになってきます。今回はリーディングのちょっとしたコツをお伝えしたいと思います。

最近はフレーズ・リーディングといって「意味のまとまり」で区切り内容を理解していくということを習うようです。

例としまして
She lived /in London /3 years ago.
彼女は住んでいました/ロンドンに/3年前
⇒彼女はロンドンに3年前住んでいました

「意味のまとまり」に分けるヒントです。
①前置詞の前：I dropped by a bank/on my way to work.
②長い主語の前や目的語の前：The child wearing a green T-shirt /is my son.
③to不定詞の前：I went to LA/to study English.
④接続詞の前：I played baseball/when I was a high school student.
⑤関係詞の前：She works at a restaurant/which is near Yokohama station.

慣れてくると自然にできるようになるので、だんだん区切りが少なくなってきます。

これは有名な『ハリーポッターと賢者の石』の最初の部分です。

Mr and Mrs Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much. They were the last people you’d expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they just didn’t hold with such nonsense.

まず、こちらの区切りを元に読んでみて慣れたら上の本文を読み直してみて下さいね。
