この度は、日本の気候について英語で説明する時に使える英語を紹介させていただきます。

海外の方とお話するときに、「日本はどういう気候なの？」「いつ日本に訪れるのが最適なの？」と聞かれる機会があるかもしれません。そのような機会を捉えて、是非自分の意見をはっきりと伝えられることを意識し、英語のコミュニケーション能力を身につけましょう。そのためには、様々な英語の表現を知っておくことが効果的です。このブログが、更に多くの英語表現に触れる機会を作るきっかけとなれば幸いです。

気候を説明するのに使える英語

・比較的温暖/寒冷　Relatively warm/cold

In Okinawa, the temperature in winter is relatively warm throughout the season.

沖縄では、冬全体を通して気温は比較的暖かいです。

・気温差Temperature gap

日本は地域による気候差が大きいです。

There are huge temperature gaps between different places in Japan.

・山岳地帯 Mountainous area

Chubu area, which is located in the center of Japan, is a mountainous area. Because of that, the temperature is a little lower.

日本の真ん中に位置している中部地方は、山岳地帯です。そのため天気はやや低いです。

I stayed in the mountainous area for this summer, so it was comfortable to stay.

When do you think is the best season to visit Japan?　Also, are there any places you can recommend to visit?

「Do you think 」が文中に入っているので、客観的な意見よりも個人の意見を聞く文となります。以下に回答例を掲載いたします。

I think winter is the best season to visit Japan. There are many good places to go skiing. Among them, I recommend going to one in Hokkaido. The quality of the snow is great and there are delicious sea food and great nature.

冬が一番日本を訪れるのにいいと思います。良いスキー場が沢山あります。その中でも北海道のスキー場に行くのがおすすめです。雪の品質が良いし、おいしい海鮮と素晴らしい自然があります。

Could you tell me what the weather is like in Japan?

There are huge weather gaps between different locations in Japan.

For example, in the Setouchi region, which is located in the west of Japan, it rains less compared to other places throughout the year. On the other hand, the precipitation is high in the Japan Sea area and in Okinawa.

日本には地域ごとに大きな気温差があります。例えば日本の西に位置する瀬戸内では、他の地域に比べて雨の量は一年中少ないです。一方で日本海地域と沖縄の降水量は高いです。
