ロンドン一日観光に続きまして、今回は横浜校Annのお薦めバンコク観光編です。
Annは生まれてすぐに香港へ行き、その後タイ・インド・アメリカと様々な国で生活した経験を持つ講師です。その中でも一番長く生活をしたタイについて今回は紹介してもらいました。

When I lived in Bangkok, I didn’t go to the big tourist attractions that much, so this is a list of things I usually did and recommend to anyone that visits Bangkok!

① Chatuchak weekend market

The largest outdoor market in Thailand, Chatuchak has almost everything you can shop for from clothes, artwork, souvenirs, plants, food, electronics, to even animals! If you want to shop, I recommend trying to haggle to get some good deals but it’s also very fun just exploring the thousands of stalls and getting lost in the chaos.

文字通り、週末しか開催されないバンコク最大の公設市場。約10万平方メートルの広大な面積を誇る敷地内は、衣類、インテリア、ペット、骨董品、古本、中古品、ガーデンニング、飲食など合わせて8つのゾーンに分けられ、1mほどの間口の店が全部で約8000軒並びます。

② Lumpini park

It’s a large park in the middle of the city, and a nice escape from the busy streets of Bangkok. As you relax in the park, you can see some interesting animals like monitor lizards and tropical birds. I recommend getting some food from one of the many food stalls outside the park and have a little picnic inside.

ラチャダムリ通りとラーマ4世通りが交差するところにある大きな公園で、ラーマ6世によって、バンコクで最初に国民に開放されました。緑が非常に多く30種類以上の野鳥が生息することから、都会のバードウォッチングエリアとしても知られています。

③ Thai massage (many locations)

I’m not the biggest fan of massages but Thai massage is a must if you like massages. Massage shops are everywhere and are quite cheap. One unique thing is that they often employ blind and visually impaired people as massage practitioners, as they can have a heightened sense of touch.

Some more shopping options:

• MBK Center
o A big local mall with lots of small cheap shops and food. It’s basically like an indoor night market, and although it can get a little chaotic, I think it’s a fun place to explore and a little different from the many big, modern malls that are popping up around the city recently.

マーブンクロンセンター通称「MBK」は、雑貨や携帯、ファッション、貴金属など、ほぼすべてのものが揃う大型ショッピングモールで東急百貨店が併設しています。

• Patpong night market
o If you’re a fan of night markets, head over to the Patpong night market to get some local souvenirs, cheap food, fake brands, or get a taste of the nightlife.

バンコクの最も悪名高い歓楽街の一つにある、活気あふれるパッポン ナイト マーケット。1970 年代のベトナム戦争中に米兵用の慰安地区となって以来、その名を広く知られるようになりました。今日では、買い物客やディープなバンコクの側面を垣間見たい好奇心にあふれた観光客の両方を惹きつけています。

A note on transportation:

Make sure you take advantage of the cheap, convenient train system (called BTS) in Bangkok. Tuk tuks and bike taxis are quite fun to ride too, but make sure to ask for the price because sometimes they charge more for tourists!

タイでの交通手段は電車・地下鉄、バス、タクシー、トゥクトゥクなどがありますが、観光客は高いお金を要求される場合もありそうです。

A few restaurant recommendations:

Eathai (at Central Embassy mall)
A big food court where you can try a variety of traditional regional dishes! It’s more accessible than going around the city trying street food, as this place is clean and new. Highly recommend if you want to try new dishes.

タイ全土の名料理やお土産が集まった「Eathai」（イータイ）。バンコクの高級ショッピングモール「セントラル・エンバシー」の地下1階にあるフードコートです。おいしいタイ料理を安く、おしゃれな雰囲気を楽しむことが可能。

MK (many locations)
A popular hot pot chain, it’s like Thai shabu shabu. Great for going with a group of people.

タイでお鍋といったら、タイスキ！そのタイスキで最もタイ人の心を掴んでいるのがバンコクで知らない人はいないのではないか「ＭＫレストラン」です。ヘルシーに野菜もお肉もたくさん食べることができ小さな子どもからお年寄りまで年代を問わず愛されているタイスキのレストランです。

Great Shanghai (Soi Sukhumvit 24, near Phrom Phong BTS station)
Not Thai food, but they have delicious cheap peking duck
北京ダックや子豚丸焼きが有名な中華料理レストラン。

Inter Restaurant (in Siam Square)
Good local Thai food with lots of variety
普段のランチで食べたい「普通の」タイ料理がリーズナブルな価格で楽しめるのがこちらの店の魅力。

Greyhound Café (many locations)
A modern take on Thai fusion food. They also have fun fruity drinks!
料理は、タイ料理、洋食、スイーツと幅広いメニューが揃っています。カラフルでトロピカルなドリンクも人気です。

生徒様に海外旅行のお話を伺うことがよくあります。今まで何か国も行ったことのあるという方の中でよく話にあがるのがタイとスペインです。どちらも私は行ったことがないので、タイは特に常に行ってみたい国として頭にあります。

今回は実際に暮らしていたAnnならではの魅力のあるお薦めプランでしたね。
主要言語はタイ語なので観光地でやや英語が通じる・・・ようですが、やはり片言の英語でも空港やホテルなどで言葉が伝わる手段があるなら少しでもわかるといいですね。
