【Jake】from シンガポール
2025年3月よりイングリッシュビレッジで勤務をしています。
シンガポール出身ですが、7年間、タイ、北海道、そして現在はイングリッシュビレッジで英語を教えています。英語教師になる前は、ニューヨーク、シンガポール、ドバイで別の仕事をしていたそうなので、ビジネス英語も得意です。海外旅行が好きな方もJakeと色々な国の話で盛り上がりそうですね。
Jakeは本当にいつも一歩引いたように礼儀正しく、帰る時もコンコンとノックして挨拶をして帰ってくれたり、ちょっとのことでもいつも「ありがとう。」と言ってくれるような講師です。

In my lessons, I really enjoy talking about daily life topics, travel, food, investment, business, and current events, depending on the student’s level and interests. I especially like helping students express their own opinions and personal experiences in English.
私のレッスンでは、受講生の方のレベルや興味に応じて、日常生活の話題、旅行、食べ物、投資、ビジネス、時事問題について話すことを特に楽しんでいます。特に、皆さんが英語で自分の意見や個人的な経験を表現できるようサポートするのが得意です。

In my free time, I enjoy playing tennis, working out, and reading and writing children’s books. I also like recreating “fancy brunch” dishes at home when I have time.

空き時間には、テニスをしたり、ワークアウトをしたり、児童書の読書や執筆を楽しんでいます。また、時間がある時は自宅で「おしゃれなブランチ」料理を再現するのも好きです。
（再現した料理の写真をいくつか添付しました。）

Jakeの写真みてください。お店で写真撮っただけでしょ？と冗談で言ったら、違うよ、ちゃんと作ったんだよと笑っていました。ただ、金額を抑えるために、実物は本当はマンゴーだったけど僕はオレンジを使ったよと。味はレストランとは違うけど、今はピスタチオも抹茶のクリームもお店で売ってるから結構簡単にできるんだよとのことでした。
なかなか面白い楽しみかたですね！

Some Japanese dramas I like to rewatch from time to time are Hanzawa Naoki and HERO.
This is one of the ways I pick up Japanese vocabulary and improve my language skills.
時々見返すのが好きな日本のドラマは『半沢直樹』と『HERO』です。
これが日本語の語彙を覚え、語学力を向上させる方法の一つです。

Around EV Gotanda, one of my students recommended a restaurant called Odenya Takeshi (おでん屋たけし), and I really like it.
五反田周辺で、受講生の方が「おでん屋たけし」というお店を勧めてくれたんだけど、すごく気に入りました。

【Dante】from US
日本に13年住んでいるDanteは聞いているだけでとても興味深いお仕事をされてきました。軍隊に5年間いてその間にMedical Laboratoryを2年学んだとのことで、よくわからなかったので聞いてみたら顕微鏡で病気や細胞を調べてたんだよと教えてくれました。医療関係の方や理系の方はDanteと専門的な話がはずむかもしれませんね。
Danteは・・・一見真面目そうでおとなしそうですが話すと色々なことに興味がある講師で面白いなと思います。今回も質問の際に写真も送って！とお願いすると、写真が多すぎて選ぶのが大変でそれがいつも悩みなんだよと。そんなDanteに是非レッスンの中で写真もみせてもらってください、きっと喜んで色々紹介してくれます。

During lessons, me and students enjoy talking about current events, culture, daily life, family, many kinds of sports, and different forms of entertainment.
授業中、私たちは時事問題、文化、日常生活、家族、様々なスポーツ、そして様々な娯楽について話すことを楽しんでいます。

In my free time, I enjoy following many kinds of sports leagues as well as Japanese professional wrestling (puroresu). I also like meeting friends while making and collecting all kinds of memories.
空き時間には、様々なスポーツリーグやプロレス（プロレスリング）を観戦するのが好きです。また、様々な思い出を作りながら、友人たちと会うことも楽しんでいます。

I watch Japanese puroresu shows on YouTube and 90s Shonen anime.
YouTubeで日本のプロレス番組と90年代の少年アニメを見ています。

I know Ribera Steakhouse in Gotanda, a professional wrestling and combat sports themed steakhouse.
五反田にあるリベラ・ステーキハウスを知っています。プロレスと格闘技をテーマにしたステーキハウスです。

I like Tokyo the best because it’s an awesome and unique combination of traditional and modern culture. It is also convenient and safe. There’s always something to do and explore. I also like Yokosuka because I lived there for many years when I was in the U.S. Navy.
東京が一番好きです。伝統と現代文化が見事に融合した、他に類を見ない街だからです。便利で安全なのも魅力です。常に何かしらの楽しみや発見があります。また、米海軍に在籍していた頃、長年住んでいた横須賀も好きです。

【Lox】from South Africa
Loxといえば、初めて会った日にとてもキレイな日本語で自己紹介と挨拶をされてビックリしました。ダンスの大会に出場するぐらいダンスが上手なんです。うちも息子がダンスしているのでLoxとはダンスの話をすることが多いです。ファッションも興味がある講師でいつもオシャレ。でもとってもほのぼのとしていて話しやすい講師です。大会でよく韓国にもいっているので韓国好きな方はローカルな話題で盛り上がれるかも。

In my lesson, I like to talk about things related to the student. I like to have conversations based on the things they do, as well as any shared interests we may have．
私のレッスンでは、受講生の方に関連することについて話すのが好きです。受講生の皆さんがしていることや、私たちに共通する趣味などについて会話を進めるのが好きです。

I have my own rug brand, so I spend my free time making new designs. I also DJ, so I’m often playing at a bar or club in the evenings．
私は自身のラグブランドを運営しているので、空き時間には新しいデザインを考案しています。またDJもしているので、夜にはバーやクラブでプレイすることがよくあります。

I really enjoy variety and romance shows. Recently I watched あいのり and really enjoyed it.
バラエティ番組や恋愛番組が本当に好きです。最近『あいのり』を観て、とても楽しめました。

I don’t really go anywhere special around EV Gotanda, but since I really like sandwiches, I often go to Subway near Meguro River.
五反田周辺で特にどこかに行くわけじゃないけど、サンドイッチが大好きだから、目黒川近くのサブウェイによく行きます。

My favorite part of Japan is Naeba. I went there about 2 years ago and really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere.
日本で一番好きな場所は苗場です。2年ほど前に訪れ、その穏やかな雰囲気がとても気に入りました。

【Denise】from South Africa
大ベテランの講師で、銀座校や五反田校の母のような存在です。下の文からも伝わるように、いつも全てのことに感謝をしているような、本当に愛のある講師です。Deniseといえば、スクールで観葉植物に水やりをしているのが印象的です。長年の経験があるので、どんな話題でも詳しくレッスン時間もあっという間に感じるでしょう。

I love travelling and exploring different cultures and have been to more than 70 countries.However, Japan is still my favourite country and most admired culture . In the years that I have been living here, I have enjoyed studying the tea ceremony, shiatsu , ikebana , and Japanese and kanji which will be a life time hobby.
私は旅行と異文化探求が大好きで、これまでに70カ国以上を訪れました。しかし、日本が今でも私の一番好きな国であり、最も憧れる文化です。ここに住み始めてから、茶道、指圧、生け花、日本語と漢字を学ぶことを楽しみ、これらは生涯の趣味となるでしょう。

I have been teaching for many, many years and I still love and appreciate my job because it’s always a joy spending time with my students , getting to know them and their interests and encouraging them to enjoy studying and speaking English with confidence.
私は長年教えてきましたが、今もこの仕事を愛し、感謝しています。なぜなら受講生の方と過ごす時間は常に喜びであり、彼らや彼らの興味を知り、自信を持って英語を学び話すことを楽しむよう励ますことができるからです。

I also enjoy reading and discussing articles at all levels with my students that will not only improve their English, but maybe give them a new understanding of some topic. So my lessons are head and heart encounters of learning.
受講生の方とは、英語力を向上させるだけでなく、特定のテーマに対する新たな理解をもたらすような記事を、あらゆるレベルで読み、議論することを楽しんでいます。ですから私の授業は、頭と心が触れ合う学びの場なのです。

In my free time my husband and I enjoy hiking in the beautiful Japanese countryside, going to onsens and exploring the different neighbourhoods, gardens and parks and meeting new locals and foreigners over a cup of tea or coffee. Also going to museums, art galleries, antique shops and ceramic fairs is inspiring and relaxing.
夫と美しい日本の田舎をハイキングしたり、温泉に行ったり、様々な街並みや庭園、公園を探索したり、お茶やコーヒーを飲みながら地元の人や外国人と交流を楽しんでいます。また、美術館やアートギャラリー、骨董店、陶器市を訪れることも刺激的でリラックスできます。

I don’t have a lot of time to watch TV but I try not to miss the drama “ ばけばけ “. based on the true story of Patrick Lafcadio Hearn and set in the Meiji era. I’m always interested in losing myself in a different era through dramas and especially because I’m interested in the history and culture of Japan.

テレビを見る時間はあまりないけれど、明治時代を舞台にした実話小泉八雲に基づくドラマ「ばけばけ」は見逃さないようにしている。ドラマを通じて異なる時代に没頭するのはいつも興味深く、特に日本の歴史や文化に興味があるからです。

I also enjoy watching “Cool Japan “ which is a TV talk show about interesting aspects of Japanese life and culture as viewed by a panel of people from other countries discussing different aspects of Japanese culture and how they differ from their respective homelands. It’s a wonderful opportunity to discover Japanese culture from cosplay to manga to kimono and Japanese cuisine to anything about everyday life in Japan.
また、海外のパネリストたちが日本の文化の様々な側面を議論し、自国との違いを語るトーク番組「クールジャパン」も楽しんでいます。コスプレからマンガ、着物、日本料理、そして日本の日常生活に至るまで、日本の文化を発見する素晴らしい機会です。

Whenever I can it’s a joy to visit Kyoto and Kamakura which are very traditional but I also love being out in nature especially going to the ocean to swim because I have a deep appreciation for all of nature and I especially love animals. Japan has so much to offer nature wise from Hokkaido to Okinawa .
京都や鎌倉のような伝統的な街を訪れるのは、機会があるたびに喜びです。しかし同時に、自然の中に身を置くことも大好きで、特に海に泳ぎに行くのが好きです。なぜなら私は自然のすべてに深い感謝を抱いており、特に動物を愛しているからです。北海道から沖縄まで、日本には自然の面で本当に多くの魅力があります。

In Japan we eat with our eyes before we even taste anything elegantly served on beautiful small Japanese ceramics. Traditional Japanese cuisine is a feast for the eyes and taste buds and that delights my eye for beauty and elegant simplicity.
日本では、美しい日本の小皿に優雅に盛り付けられた料理を、味わう前にまず目で楽しむ。伝統的な日本料理は目と味覚の饗宴であり、その美しさと洗練された簡素さに私の目は魅了されます。

Onsen tamago or Nama tamago on hot rice are examples of my comfort food
I feel like a child in an adult body in Japan because there is so much to learn and experience and I’m enjoying and appreciating everything . It’s a privilege and joy to live in a safe, respectful and aesthetically pleasing place which feels like home !!
温泉卵や生卵をご飯に乗せたものは、私の心の支えとなる食べ物です。
日本では大人の体をした子供のようで、学ぶことや体験することがたくさんあり、全てを楽しんで感謝しています。安全で敬意に満ち、美意識の高い、まるで故郷のような場所で暮らせるのは特権であり喜びです。

皆さん、講師紹介楽しんでいただけましたでしょうか。
いつもレッスンを受けている講師の意外な一面がみえましたか？今度話してみたいなという講師はいましたか？

日本人的考えでいつもと違う講師を受講するのは申し訳ないなと気にする方もいるのですが、講師達は気にしませんので、待合室であっても「Hi,」と挨拶していただければOK。
